Ministry of Environment Advances Afforestation Initiatives in Egypt
Egypt’s Minister of Environment emphasized nationwide afforestation and plantation efforts across Egypt.
Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, emphasised the need for collaborative efforts to advance environmental work in Egypt and tackle current challenges. She reaffirmed her commitment to addressing requests and inquiries from the energy and environment committees in both chambers, highlighting the impact of environmental issues on the daily lives of citizens.
In her statement, Dr. Fouad outlined the Ministry’s initiatives to boost afforestation and improve waste management across all governorates. She highlighted projects aimed at managing agricultural waste, including the promotion of biogas units for producing organic fertilizers and household gas. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to enhance sustainability and protect Egypt’s natural reserves, which cover 15% of the country's land.
The ministry is also focusing on expanding green spaces in collaboration with civil society and local authorities while implementing measures to prevent unauthorised tree-cutting. Dr. Fouad stressed the importance of community involvement and ongoing dialogue to address key environmental challenges affecting everyday life.
